The Wa-Hi Blue Devils Girls Varsity Soccer team opened the season with an impressive 5-1 victory over Lewiston on Wednesday, September 2, competing in an away game at Lewiston. The team got on the scoreboard within the first three minutes when Raelyn McNeil assisted Emily Abbey for the opening goal. With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Liliana Rivas assisted freshman Esther Perez, who found the back of the net to give the team a 2-0 lead. Just five minutes into the second half, Esther Perez assisted Liliana Rivas for another goal. Rivas then took matters into her own hands, creating her own opportunity and scoring again. Raelyn McNeil added another assist, setting up Julissa Martinez for the team's fifth goal. Defensively, goalkeeper Zuci Lopez had a strong game in the net, recording seven saves. Freshman Esther Perez had an outstanding season debut, finishing the game with one goal and one assist.
