Blue Devils Rally, Come Up Short Against Mt. Spokane

A second-half surge wasn’t enough as WA-HI Football battled back from a 24-point halftime deficit. The WA-HI Blue Devils showed plenty of fight in their 2026 season opener Friday night, rallying in the second half before ultimately falling 31-20 to the Mt. Spokane Wildcats on the road. Mt. Spokane controlled the first half, taking a 24-0 lead into halftime. But the Blue Devils came out of the break ready to turn things around. WA-HI forced a turnover to open the second half and immediately turned it into points when Lincoln Heinrich connected with Trey McCauley on a long touchdown pass. Kalama Roberson then added two touchdowns of his own as the Blue Devils chipped away at the Wildcats’ lead. Despite the impressive second-half comeback, WA-HI’s rally fell short as Mt. Spokane held on for the 31-20 non-conference victory. The Blue Devils demonstrated resilience and determination in the second half, giving the team plenty to build on as the season continues. Wa-Hi Girls Soccer Earns 2-1 Victory Over Central Valley

The Wa-Hi Girls Varsity Soccer team picked up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Central Valley on Friday, September 4, at home in Walla Walla. The Blue Devils found the back of the net twice, with Makayah Lawyer and Raelyn McNiel each scoring a goal to lead Wa-Hi to the win. The team’s strong effort on both sides of the ball helped secure the victory and gave the Blue Devils an exciting start to their season. Final Score: Wa-Hi 2, Central Valley 1

Wa-Hi Girls Swim & Dive Opens Season with Strong Showing at MCC Twilight Meet

The Wa-Hi Girls Swim & Dive Team opened its 2026 season Friday evening, September 4, at the MCC Twilight Swim Meet, held at George Prout Outdoor Pool in Richland. Fifteen of Wa-Hi’s seventeen athletes competed in the early-season jamboree alongside 185 athletes representing all ten Mid-Columbia Conference schools. The Blue Devils brought a great deal of positive energy to the meet and did a great job encouraging each other to do their best. There were also a lot of personal-best times, which is an incredible accomplishment this early in the season. Although the meet was not scored, Wa-Hi had several individuals and relays finish in the top ten. Walla Walla performed especially well in the relay events. In the 200 Medley Relay, the “A” squad of Cora Asmus, Claire Chen, Violette Schindler, and Madelyn Smith won with a time of 2:07.31. The “B” squad of Olivia Thayne, Millie Zanes, Lucy Anderton, and Cienna Lyon finished seventh with a time of 2:17.69. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the “A” squad of Violette Schindler, Cora Asmus, Cienna Lyon, and Madelyn Smith finished second with a time of 1:48.98. The “B” squad of Lucy Anderton, Olivia Thayne, Millie Zanes, and Cienna Lyon finished seventh with a time of 2:00.31. Nine of Wa-Hi’s fifteen student-athletes finished in the top ten in their individual events: Sophomore Violette Schindler won the 50 Butterfly (27.36) and finished second in the 100 IM (1:01.99). Junior Madelyn Smith won the 50 Freestyle (26.55) and finished sixth in the 100 IM (1:09.02). Freshman Claire Chen won the 50 Breaststroke (35.24) and finished eighth in the 100 IM (1:11.94). Freshman Cora Asmus finished second in the 50 Backstroke (33.70) and fourth in the 100 Freestyle (1:04.95). Junior Lucy Anderton finished sixth in the 100 Backstroke (1:19.14) and seventh in the 50 Backstroke (36.04). Junior Cienna Lyon finished sixth in the 50 Backstroke (35.79) and tenth in the 100 IM (1:15.47). Freshman Millie Zanes finished seventh in the 50 Butterfly (33.12). Senior Reagan Hendley finished ninth in the 50 Backstroke (38.23). Junior Olivia Thayne finished tenth in the 50 Butterfly (33.60). With a strong opening meet and numerous personal-best performances to build on, the Blue Devils are off to a promising start to the season. Wa-Hi will compete in its first official conference dual on Tuesday, September 15, when the team faces the three Kennewick schools at Serier Pool in Kennewick. The Blue Devils will then compete in the Mid-Columbia Invitational on Saturday, September 19, at Pasco’s Memorial Pool.
