Wa-Hi Girls Volleyball Earns 3-1 Win Over Richland

The Wa-Hi Girls Volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Richland on Tuesday, September 29, on the road, marking the first time in a long time the Blue Devils have defeated Richland at their home gym. Junior Audrey Davenport led Wa-Hi offensively with a team-high 22 kills and a .340 hitting percentage. Senior Delilah Franssen followed with 12 kills while hitting an impressive .570. Wa-Hi Girls Swim & Dive Falls to Hanford and Richland

The Wa-Hi Girls Swim & Dive Team suffered its first dual meet losses of the season Tuesday evening, September 29, against Hanford and Richland at George Prout Pool in Richland. Hanford defeated Walla Walla 125-58, while Richland won 124-59. Both Hanford and Richland entered the meet undefeated in conference competition and have the depth needed to dominate dual meets. Eight other schools also competed, bringing the total to 11 teams at the meet. The competition provided Wa-Hi with a preview of the Spokane-area competition for the upcoming District 6 Championships. Despite missing Madelyn Smith, the Blue Devils had several top finishes at the blustery outdoor meet, and several athletes posted personal-best times. Wa-Hi’s relay teams also placed well against the other 10 schools. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the “A” squad of Cienna Lyon, Olivia Thayne, Lucy Anderton, and Violette Schindler finished fourth overall with a time of 1:52.01. The “B” squad of Gianna Goff, Reagan Hendley, Brooke-Lynn Bishop, and Josefine Fitts finished fourteenth overall in 2:09.86. In the 200 Medley Relay, the “A” squad of Cora Asmus, Claire Chen, Millie Zanes, and Cienna Lyon finished sixth overall with a time of 2:13.36. The “B” squad of Gianna Goff, Lucy Anderton, Olivia Thayne, and Josefine Fitts finished twelfth overall in 2:21.76. Although the Blue Devils came up short in the dual meets, the team continued to gain valuable experience against strong competition while several athletes recorded personal-best times.
